You know you’re in Kentucky when… you see a music festival website menu option simply labeled: Bourbon (!!!)
For those copper-bottomed folks already in the know, we probably needn’t mention that Forecastle Festival is one of the United States’ most highly-revered festivals, but it’s very much worth fathoming out that these folks are activists by nature.
In such a way that their mission clearly states, “…to protect and connect the world’s natural awesome.”
The force behind Forecastle Festival, aka Forecastle Foundation, operates year-round to “[shine] a light on biodiversity hotspots – the richest reservoirs of life”, and as an attendee of the festival, you should feel pretty awesome yourself for helping facilitate this righteous endeavour.
That being said, those swashbucklers who’ve set aside enough gold coins in a slush fund to make their way towards the Louisville Waterfront Park this weekend are in the offing for a real treat when it comes to entertainment.
Whatever your taste in music, there’s a slew of female performers on the Forecastle Festival 2018 lineup to gush over.
Forecastle Festival 2018 – The Music
From Canadian indie rockers Arcade Fire and Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett to American heroines Jenny Lewis (remember Rilo Kiley? How about The Postal Service?!), Margo Price (you’ve heard of Third Man Records, right?) and superstar east coast dark electro pop-rockers PVRIS, Forecastle Festival 2018 is, by and large, our absolute favorite nautical-themed festival to date!
Now don’t be afraid to get underway in close quarters with these ladies, y’all can walk the plank together!
Think your friends already know the ropes?
Keep scrolling to see how many of ’em already like each artist’s page and be the first in your crew to shake a leg about their tunes — they’re sure to appreciate the cut of your jib — and if they don’t, we’re pretty sure they’ll be taken aback and on their beam ends while hearing your recap!

More about Forecastle Festival
Founded in 2002 by Capt. JK McKnight and an ambitious deck crew of young volunteers, The Forecastle Festival has grown from a small community gathering into a major national festival, attracting 75,000 travelers annually. The event has received numerous accolades, like being named one of the “coolest festivals in America” by Rolling Stone and among the “Top 101 Things to do in America” by SPIN Magazine, but it’s more than that.
As Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips put it after his 2010 performance, “I hope Forecastle lasts 100 years. We’ll play as many as we can.”
We hope so too, Wayne. We hope so too.
