“You don’t have to be age 20 and size zero to be sexually viable or viable as a woman.” —Belinda Carlisle
It’s not every day that we get to pay homage to a true living legend — but lucky you — today is an exception to that rule!
You may better remember her as the frontwoman of pioneering all-female new wave band, The Go-Go’s.
Yes, those Go-Go’s… the band that ultimately helped distinguish new wave from punk in the late 70s / early 80s!
If you were lucky enough to have caught one of The Go-Go’s performances at The Hollywood Bowl last month, we’re straight-up jealous.
While we can neither confirm nor deny this, Belinda has most certainly still got the beat!
Oh, and she is still putting out music… as a solo artist!

Should you be one of the lucky 1.5 million people living in Hawaii, well… let’s just say you’re lucky and leave it at that.
You probably already know then that August 17 2018 will mark the 49th anniversary of Hawaii’s statehood.
If you’re not one of those fortuitous souls to call Hawaii home, here are a few ideas we have for celebrating, locally:
- Bust out that Hawaiian shirt and wear it proudly!
- Visit a local Hawaiian restaurant (L&L Hawaiian Barbecue is a noteworthy worldwide chain)
- Crunch on some Macadamia nuts!
- Cook a kalua pork dish in your new Instant Pot!
- Brew (or cold brew) a cup of Kona coffee!
- Pop the top on a delicious can of beer from Maui Brewing Company
- Practice your ukulele skills
- Fashion a lei from silk (or real) flowers
- Plan a trip to Hawaii for next year during their 50th anniversary
Put one or more of the above into practice and you should be feeling the aloha right away!
If the idea of licking silky smooth vanilla custard off a spoon seems tantalizing, you’re in good company!
Because today, August 17 2018, is National Vanilla Custard Day!
There’s something magical about the combination of eggs, cream, sugar and vanilla that adds up to more than a sum of the parts.
Whether it be straight from the spoon, or as a pastry filling, there’s going to be some smiling involved!
Let’s take a moment to recognize the good that nonprofit organizations, NPOs or simply “nonprofits” are doing in the word.
Regardless of the specific social cause they’re advocating for, let’s celebrate the idea of using surplus funds to further a noble cause.
Should you do one thing to commemorate these efforts on August 17 2018, let it be this:
You don’t have to start a nonprofit, or even give money…
Be honest and genuine, and it’ll come naturally to you.
